Fairy tale?
I would've very much liked to write a fairy tale about magical pictures overhere.
However, "A good picture is worth a thousand words", and i don't have that space.
For this fairy tale i therefore have to direct you to the februari edition of openmagazine.nl (dutch).
But what is this about?
About a Super Versatile Goodie.
You have to do with it more and more often, mostly without being consciously aware of it and not always directly.
Wat is it ?
A technology that is so versatile, that often the perception of it is rather limited.
Even its own name only partly covers the load.
Say it
It's used on mobile phones, desktops and servers. For technical visualisations, art, animations, maps, websites, graphs, interaction, etc., etc.

SVG, or Scalable Vector Graphics.
expensive? free 'from' W3C.
difficult? XML-lingo comparable with HTML.
tools? What you use often already supports it, so yes, both WYSIWYG and source code.

On the University of Twente? August 15-18, professionals from very diverse backgrounds and some people who are just interested gather at “de Waaier” for a creative cross fertilization: SVG Open, the annual international conference.
What's there for me? Everything from a (beginner)course up to 4 full days of presentations, workshops, and more.
Which costs? Nothing if you help us out these days with some things (local students, contact us) , otherwise starting at about 50 euro.

Sprookje?
Heel graag had ik hier een sprookje neergezet over magische plaatjes.
“Een goed plaatje is 1000 woorden waard” en zoveel ruimte heb ik hier echter niet.

Op de UT? 15-18 augustus komen professionals van heel verschillende achtergrond en gewoon geinteresseerden bijeen in de Waaier voor een creatieve kruisbestuiving: SVG Open, de jaarlijkse internationale bijeenkomst.
Wat moet ik daar? Alles van een (beginners)cursus tot 4 volledige dagen van presentaties, workshops en meer.
Kost dat? Niks als je die dagen volledig verzorgd meehelpt met wat dingetjes (geef je op!) , anders v.a. ong. 50 euro.
